Menopause - What You Should Know
For many women, undergoing menopause might be very difficult
. Apart from the fact that having menopause halts their reproductive years, it also signals the start of the appearance of more signs of aging. And more than that, undergoing menopause isn't that easy because a woman may feel various signs and symptoms because her body reacts with a complicated imbalance of hormones.
A lot of discomforts have been associated with menopause and it is important to give emphasis to each one of them. The thing about menopause is that during a woman's reproductive years, there is a balance and steady supply of hormones in her body. Once she reaches a certain set point in her life, these hormones start to decline and it signals the start of the wear and tear of her normal physique.
Night Sweat and Hot Flashes
This duo is the most common sign of menopause. A woman may experience a surge of heat most commonly in the evening, causing her to experience night sweats and hot flashes. There is no definite treatment for this symptom but there are herbal medications which a woman can take to relieve them.
Some women remove their beddings and clothes so that they will remain cool when they sleep at night. The sweating that they experience is a normal reaction to the heat inside the body and actually helps their body become cooler.
Mood Swings and Emotional Changes
Because the hormones keep a woman's body in equilibrium, sudden drop in the hormone levels may accompany a lot of signs and symptoms which includes mood swings and emotional changes. While women may experience these blues at this point in their lives, it is important to remain beside them and provide emotional support.
Women may also feel exhausted several times in a day and would find themselves taking frequent rest periods as the body adjusts to the effect of menopause.
Skin Itchiness
One of the most annoying parts about menopause is the feeling of itchiness which seems to come out without any reason. The feeling of itchiness comes and goes and continues unrelieved at some points. It is advised to keep one's nail short and avoid scratching the skin to prevent further skin irritation.
Hair Loss
Everyone hates hair loss and not only men experience it as they grow old. Women also experience hair loss most especially during menopause. This may lower a woman's esteem and may add up to the depression that a woman feels at this point. However, there are a lot of medical and
herbal remedies for hair loss which can alleviate this sign.
Every woman responds to menopause differently because of different genetic make-up and bodily defense mechanisms and feedback. This means that each woman experiences different combination of these common signs and symptoms.
It is important that we understand things about menopause, most especially for the women so that when the time comes for them to experience this, it would be easy for them to understand why things are happening. Still, proper health education is important to alleviate these signs and symptoms. It is also advised that a woman consults her gynecologist if she feels uncomfortable dealing with menopause without any professional help.
