Mens Breeches - Riding Right

As a man, horse riding can be a little rough on your body

. Rough in places that most people don't like having roughed up too much. It can also see you get through clothes like nobody's business, with long rides wearing clothes down or casing them to tear at the seams because they can't stretch any further.

Having the right kit when you undertake any activity is a very important aspect. For instance, you wouldn't go white water rafting with polystyrene blocks stuffed up your jumper! Sure it will help you float, sure it will serve the same purpose but it really is not the best way to go about it. Okay so that example is a little extreme, but hopefully the point has been made the wrong kit will not aid you at all.

On the back of a horse, things are a little different as you'll be able to wear whatever you like. But you might find that ordinary clothes don't give you the same freedom of movement or protection that you'd like to have. You can find yourself sliding about a lot or chaffing. Sometimes, it is just best to use the right tool for the job. A decent set of mens breeches will stretch and return to shape, whilst giving you grip in the right areas once you're in the saddle and offering you the full scope of movement you'll need while you're riding.

Mens breeches vary by riding style, event or discipline but they are usually available in a wide variety of colours and sizes. Traditional style wide seated breeches can still be found for authentic looking re-enactments or period costume but these have fallen out of favour since the implementation of modern materials like Lycra, making the extra room unnecessary. Breeches today are tight fitting and to the knee, to the ankle or to be worn with half chaps.

That said, the traditional uniform of the Royal Canadian Mounted Police still uses old style breeches as part of the attire used in ceremonies. Most people will probably find that the modern style of mens breeches are more suitable, comfortable and affordable, but if that's not what you fancy (or you require specialist attire for an event), some outlets can still provide the old fashioned ones.
