If youre not use to wearing a suit, let along buying one

, its unlikely that youre aware of the current fashion trends that affect them let alone the social protocols that silently dictate what shade should be worn when and where. Make sure youre not about to step out in the wrong suit and check out this guide to the colour of mens suits.

Weddings

If youre a guest then theres no real expectation placed on you, normally, as to what you should wear, let alone the colour of suit. This is a happy occasion, as such you want to aim to wear a suit in a shade that isnt too dark and oppressive so aim for light greys or navy blues. Pair it up with a white shirt in a formal style.

Funerals

Unless youre a pallbearer, there is no need for you to wear a black suit to a funeral. The aim is to look respectful. By all means, if you feel like wearing a black suit, then do so, but you can also opt for a dark grey or navy suit. Dark shirts are also a good choice, as are sedately coloured ties.

Going Out

You may not normally go out for the night wearing a suit, normally, but it is a viable party wear option. A black suit with a plain dark t-shirt, and a smart pair of leather shoes will look pretty smooth. And you dont have to wear the full suit, you could replace the trousers with a pair of straight-legged dark jeans.

Interviews

You want to stand out, but not for wearing the worst suit in the world. A black suit with a white shirt will stand out well, plus add a strong, yet not too boldly patterned tie. And remember to pay attention to the shoes you put on - make sure theyre black leather.

The Office

Apart from ensuring that your suit fits you well, you need to wear an appropriate colour. Suits in charcoals or greys are very acceptable. Pinstripe variations also fit in well. And for that splash of colour choose a lightly coloured shirt and a tastefully patterned tie.
