Privacy consists of three types that are physical, informational and organizational. Information about individuals plays an important role in privacy. There are issues about where the identifiable data relating to individuals are collected, stored and in what form, who is given the access to the data and whether the individuals have the possession rights and the right to view or change the information collected. Technology plays a big role in data privacy. The moral concern of significance is corporations have the right to create individual profiles of consumers and their responsibility in defending the consumer's privacy is in question in consideration of the use of individual information.

The individuals should own the right of determining whom and in what form can data collection be allowed. By allowing the individual the right to decide entities would be acting in the best interest of society in a whole. Data collection without the state knowledge of the consumer is not a method that introduces buoyancy in World Wide Web. Information congregated through surveillance techniques also has a bigger chance of being inaccurate. Entities need collect data about their customers in order to make informed decisions about what products to offer and how to present those products in the market. This is a marketing technique and not a new issue, but with the influx of the World Wide Web, entities have been given the tools like cookies to collect and employ more in depth records of customer habits than ever before.

The usual stores might keep track of purchases through a credit card, but they do not keep record of what items a customer checked, for how long, and how many stores visited by. The World Wide Web has made this kind of tracking not only possible, but veracity. There are always bad

Following the consumers" actions over the World Wide Web and understanding their preferences the corporations build the case that they can judge what is best for the consumers. This is one of the tactics of corporations in order to maximize their share in the market. This can also be benefit to consumers in a sense. For instance, if an identified sex offender lives in your area and you have kids, the public awareness of this individual is a benefit to the community. Another example, let"s say you buy a comedy movie for a night at a web site and continue visiting the web site, they will offer you similar type of products to your last purchase. This is also a benefit of data collection of consumers. If it has benefits to the majority then collection of data is not an issue as long as the information is safe and in good hands. The majority in should the data collected from individuals use or sell issue is the consumers and whoever is collecting the data is the minority.

Another privacy issue is the government surveillance that by all technology individuals can be seen, telephone conversations be copied, internet activities be tracked and so on. As the corporations government has a purpose that of security and prevention. Even though some of us get paranoid about the surveillance of every move, it can be good or even could stop a disaster that would cost too many lives. In today"s world, there are many terrorist organizations that are threat to the world. Whatever the operation of the terrorists: explode a bomb in a subway, bring down a building or assassinating a president, they need to set up the attack. Such determinations ask for the pre-operational surveillance. This kind of surveillance is always of good for the society as long as it is used reasonably.

Letting the individuals the power to update, maintain their personal information about data collection is the solution to privacy. The control will be in individuals" hands that data will affect the most. This will also be good for the corporations in their marketing decisions that the information collected will have higher accuracy. The data collection of agencies should gather information about individuals as long as they get the consent of the individuals.
