There are just a few car marquees on the road these days that can claim a history dating back to the first decade of the 20th century. It can claim the distinction of being the world's oldest automobile brand that still cruises with the same snobbish elegance today as it did back in 1901.

It was first marketed under the Daimler Motors name then, while the first cars bearing the Mercedes Benz auto marquee first appeared in 1926 following the merger between Karl Benz and Gottlieb Daimler companies to form the Daimler-Benz company. And the rest, as they say, is history the history of one of the finest car brands on the planet.

Quality With Few Peers Right from the start, the Mercedes-Benz auto brand has retained its reputation as the vehicle of choice among people who value the best quality in a road vehicle. Just when there's every reason to shun the marquee for being the favorite brand of the most hated man of the 20th century Adolf Hitler, there's no escaping the exquisite craftsmanship, precision vehicle parts and engineering value that is the hallmark of German automobiles rivaled only by other German marquees the Porsche and Volkswagen auto.

It's interesting to note that in the US, Mercedes-Benz auto has the worst carbon dioxide emission of all European brands, ranking last of the 14 EU brands over the last years starting in 2006. Its current models haven't changed their vehicle parts to comply with the stringent emission requirements. .

It also has one of the lowest fuel economies of all cars in the US. It does not meet federal fuel economy standards at all and is the only European car to be slapped a record $30.66 million for their deliberate decision to snub US Federal emission requirements. Owners of its S550 and all AMG models sold in the US are facing added gas guzzler taxes. But aftermarket vehicle parts can be retrofitted to achieve the required fuel economy standards.

But really now, who cares? It only affirms the elitist appeal of the brand, snubbing even mighty Uncle Sam's vehicle fuel economy and CO2 emission standards. When you can afford a $160,000 sedan, fuel economy is the last thing your mind, despite having aftermarket vehicle parts that can bring up the luxury marque to Federal standards.
