A new partnership between Nissan and Daimler-Benz will be very close while working to create new engine technology and more solid platforms. Reports from Japan tell us that the new Infiniti G sedan and coupe and future M sedans will use the platform of the Mercedes-Benz E-Class. Apparently the 370Z will get in on the coop as well. The engine from the 370Z, a VQ V6, could soon be replaced by Mercedes-Benz power favorites like the V6 diesel engine from the E-Class or a V6 hybrid or even a V8.

As for the dream car - a Z powered with a V8, it does not seem to be in the works right now, but both auto makers have an engine that would be a good candidate - the 5.5-liter from Mercedes-Benz and the 5.6-liter from Nissan. On the off chance Nissan does work out a plan for the Z using one of these engines, it will be competitive with models like the Chevy Corvette.
