Mexico On The Cheap

Cheap holidays in Mexico are not always easy to find as they appear to be growing in popularity year upon year

. Due to it's Central American location, Mexico is classed as a year round location so it is difficult to find a cheap 'off peak' season, however as May to October is known as the rainy season around here, this would probably be the best time to find those cheap holidays in Mexico.

Don't be put off by the words 'rainy season' though as during this time the temperatures rarely drop and as soon as the rain stops its business as usual by the pools and down on the beach.

Most holidaymakers head for the eastern Caribbean coast to resorts such as Cancun and Cozumel on the Yucatan Peninsula where you will find a host of water sports to choose from.

The cost of cheap holidays in Mexico can be kept down by a careful choice of accommodation, although the luxury resorts and all inclusive hotels are nice, there are some wonderful guest houses and self catering apartments to choose from too. Most resorts have an excellent selection of bars and restaurants so theres always plenty of option for things to do on an evening.

Excursions don't have to be expensive either; there are some traditional Mayan villages worth a visit that extend a warm welcome with plenty of traditional cuisine to try.

Experience an exhilarating horse ride through the jungle terrain, go volcano trekking or try white water rafting or kayaking. Apart from the obvious breathtaking beaches there are some wonderful deep canyons and a fascinating landscape just waiting to be explored.

No cheap holidays in Mexico would be complete without a trip to the stunning Mayan Chichen Itza, especially beautiful when lit up by the evening light show. Or there's the beautifully preserved pyramid at Chinkultic which dates back to 600 AD to visit.

If you are in Cancun, nightlife can be very reasonable too with beach parties that cater for 15,000 guests at a time, well worth a visit just to soak up the atmosphere if nothing else.

The Mexican peso is the unit of currency in Mexico however you get much better value for money if you use the US dollar. Credit card use is restricted and will always incur a charge so to keep those cheap holidays in Mexico cheap, try to avoid using them.

The main hotels all have shopping malls however these can be very exclusive, and also very expensive. Cancuns main street will be wall to wall with shoppers and although you will still see designer labels and fashionable boutiques you will also find a great selection of souvenir shops and craft stalls. There are also a few local markets that will provide everything you need on your cheap holidays in Mexico.

So if you look carefully enough when choosing your holidays, and are quite flexible about when you go, you might just be able to find yourself one of those fantastic cheap holidays in Mexico after all.
