A search of Yucatan Real Estate listings will show you that among the many excellent
options within this state, the Merida MLS real estate options and those of the nearby beachfront community of Progreso, offer two of the most interesting choices, not only in Yucatan, but in Mexico Real Estate and beyond, simply because of the fact that they complement each other well, one combining a rich colonial atmosphere with the conveniences of a modern metropolitan, and the other offering luxury, beachfront resort real estate options. For this reason, people who buy property in one, often travel to the other. Recently the state government made an important announcement for both locations, revealing plans to illuminate the Merida-Progreso highway, and providing increased highway police presence.
With an investment of about 7 million dollars, the Merida-Progreso highway will be fully illuminated in 2010; this improvement will continue to ensure further safety of residents using the highway. This improvement will serve as a benefit for both Merida real estate owners, wishing to visit the beach, or for residents of this beautiful Yucatan beachfront destination, travelling to the city to enjoy its historic colonial atmosphere, and take advantage of its modern urban conveniences.
The lighting system will work on "security station" design, similar to that used in the ring-highway of the capital of Yucatan. The lighting should be completed by next summer vacation.
The current state administration has placed emphasis on ensuring state security and peace of mind for families, and along with the new lighting system, there will be increased security along the highway and in the area. A Tactical Operation Center for the police unit will provide security to the area 29 stations and substations in the north of the capital of Yucatan. At the start of the current state administration only four police units were designated for surveillance, and the number has now been increased to 17.
As a part of the system, the state is also receiving its first SSP Monitoring Tower and Observation Deck, with a high resolution monitor that offers sensitivity for night vision. The modern equipment is of U.S. origin and was acquired with an investment of 150 thousand dollars.
This investment is an important factor for real estate buyers; in addition to providing improved travelling from the city to the beach, it also shows that the Yucatan state government is committed to both maintaining and improving safety in the area.
