Miami Airport Transportation: Options To Suit Your Needs
If you are planning on traveling to Miami, and will be flying into Miami International Airport
, the chances are that you will need to arrange some form of transportation to get you from the airport to your destination. Depending on how pressed for time you are, where you are heading, and your budget, there are any number of options available to you. Miami airport transportation includes everything from taxis to trains.
The simplest and most convenient option is usually a taxi. They are available outside of the lower arrivals area. If you have difficulty finding one, there are dispatchers located outside of every concourse that will be able to assist you.
If you are not in a rush, and prefer a more leisurely ride, you might want to take the Super Shuttle. Super Shuttle is a multiple passenger transport service that is less expensive than taxis or car rentals. Because it stops to drop off other passengers along the way, it takes somewhat longer to get to where you're going. But, if you enjoy taking the scenic route, this is the option for you. It is recommended that you make advance reservations, but they are not mandatory.
Hopefully, you checked if your hotel offers its own shuttle service before you left home. If it does, all that you need to do is go to hotel shuttle area, outside the upper departure area. Just remember that some hotels don't send their shuttles until you give them a call and let them know that you are waiting.
For those who prefer private transportation, there are several companies offering car and limousine service to and from Miami International Airport. Anything from a limousine to an SUV can be arranged. Your personal chauffeur will usually meet you at the arrival gate and be there to assist you with your luggage. Should you plan on using one of these services, you will need to arrange it in advance.
If you are up to the challenge, and not exhausted from a long flight, you can always use public transport. A Metrobus stop is located across from customs, outside of concourse E. There is also a night service called Airport Owl that operates between midnight and six o clock in the morning.
Travelers heading to Miami Beach can take the Airport Flyer, a relatively new express bus, which runs between Miami International Airport and Miami Beach. The service operates daily between 6AM and 11PM, with buses departing every 30 minutes. Passengers wanting to head downtown can take it as far as the Earlington Heights Metrorail station, where it makes a stop, and then take the train from there.
For those travelers continuing on to Fort Lauderdale or Palm Beach, there is the Tri-Rail commuter train. The station is located just east of Miami International Airport. Metrobus offers Tri-Rail ticket holders free shuttle service to and from the airport.
Rental car companies that previously had desks in Miami International Airport are now being moving to the new Rental Car Center, or RCC, located one mile to the east. Many of the rental companies that are currently located outside of the airport will also be moving there soon. Until a new, light-rail system called the MIA Mover is completed, a shuttle service will be in operation between the RCC and the various terminals.
