DETROIT, M.I. Michigan Chrysler dealers may have sold vehicles included in a triple-play of approximately 600,000 recalls involving five different Chrysler models. The vehicles involved in the recall include the Chrysler Town and Country and Dodge Grand Caravan minivans, the Chrysler Jeep Wrangler, the Dodge Calibers and the Jeep Compass. The recall is not one issue but three significant problems that have the potential to severely hamper operation of the vehicle in addition to increasing the risk of injury, crash, or in the worst-case scenario, death.

The largest group in the recall trio is the Jeep Wrangler's brake trouble. MI Chrysler drivers who own model year 2006 through 2010 Jeep Wrangler vehicles manufactured from May 15, 2006, through Aug. 9, 2010, are at risk of a brake fluid leak, which can cause a partial loss of service brakes at the affected wheel and increase the likelihood of a crash. Potential number of vehicles affected: 288,968

The second largest number of vehicles affected is the minivan group including the Chrysler Town & Country and the Dodge Grand Caravan. Certain model year 2008 and 2009 Dodge Grand Caravan and Chrysler Town & Country vehicles manufactured February through September 2007 are at risk of fire at the sliding door. MI Chrysler drivers should know a short circuit could occur inside the sliding door due to initial construction with an improperly routed wire harness. The lower sliding door hinge bracket could make contact and wear through the wire insulation possibly resulting in a fire. Potential number of vehicles affected: 284,831

The third and final recallfor the moment, at leastincludes the Dodge Caliber and Jeep Compass. Certain model year 2007 Dodge Caliber and Jeep Compass vehicles manufactured from March 7 through May 19, 2006, run the risk of experiencing words now taboo in Toyota circles: sticky gas pedals.

Pivot bushings in these vehicles with an oversized accelerator pedal bearing pockets may actually become dislodged and possibly cause the accelerator pedal to bind or stick. Smart brakes are said to override the accelerator pedal in certain conditions if the pedal becomes stuck, but since Toyota is still fresh in everyone's mind about dire recall consequences, MI Chrysler owners should not test their luck. Potential number of vehicles affected: 25,336.
