Michigan GMC Dealers Learn GM February Sales Rise Almost 50 Percent
DETROIT, M.I. - Michigan GMC dealers may be excited to know they influenced the large sales increase percentage for February. The two automakers that had the highest increases were General Motors and Toyota Motor Corp.
General Motors February sales increased 46.4 percent with 207,028 vehicles purchased as compared to 141,438 last February. In terms of consumer, retail sales, GM saw an overall all 70 percent increase; this high percentage is the highest year-over year increase for GM in its history according to the Los Angeles Times.
"Our plan was to get off to a quick start this year, and we did just that," said Don Johnson, General Motors' Sales Chief, in a press release. "Having the right vehicles in inventory, combined with aggressive advertising and targeted consumer marketing, has been the key to our success in the first two months of this year."
Small cars made up a bigger portion of General Motors' sales this past month with 40 percent of GM's sales being cars and 51 percent being light trucks. Michigan GMC dealers may have heard Chevrolet sold about 48,000 four-cylinder engine vehicles with in February, which made up about a third of the Chevrolet sales, and sold 281 Chevy Volts.
Ford also saw a larger piece of their sales made up of small cars including the Fiesta and Focus. Both of these vehicles doubled their sales from previous years. In total, Ford sales increased 13.7 percent. The other member of the Detroit Three, Chrysler, rose just under 13 percent at 12.6 percent with 95,102 vehicles sold.
As stated earlier, Toyota saw the second highest rise in sales. Now that Toyota has been cleared of faulty systems allegations and has taken steps to bring customers back with additions such as Toyota Care, Toyota Motor Corp's sales numbers are increasing quickly.

Toyota Motor Corp sold more Prius hybrids last month than in any other February with its total sales rising 41.8 percent from last year.
Overall, Michigan GMC dealers and other GMC dealers throughout the country may have seen the biggest increase, but in general U.S. new-vehicle sales rose 27 percent. This shows an estimated annual sales pace of 13.4 million, which would be the highest sales rate since July and August 2009 when 14.2 million vehicles were sold during the "cash for clunkers" economic stimulus program.
