Micro Apartments Coming To San Francisco

The Los Angeles Times reported yesterday that San Francisco supervisors are voting

on allowing city building codes to permit construction of apartments as small as 220 sq. ft. Yes, 220 square feet! The Times noted this is "a little more than double the size of some prison cells" but unlike the average prison cell, would contain "a kitchen, bathroom and closet." What in the hell is America -or at least San Francisco- coming to?

These prison cell sized apartments -known as Micro-units- are expected to rent for the criminal price of $1,200 to $1,700 per month, and would be allowed for no more than 2 people. Any more than 2 occupants would require an additional 100 sq. ft. per person. So some quick math would say that a family of 4 (2 parents & 2 children) could legally live in a unit as small as 420 sq. ft. Talk about child abuse or would that be parent abuse? Suddenly being sentenced to prison for a crime doesn't sound so bad.

What if you are a couple with two small children, say for this example,a young boy and a young girl, both pre-teen? Where would everyone sleep? In the bathroom? You can't get 3 bedrooms in 420 sq. ft. What about closets? Don't people in California need them, or are they all naked nudists? What if the two children are teenagers? Are you really supposed to have a teenage boy and a teenage girl sharing a single bedroom? Most teenage boys would be happy to share their bedroom with a teenage girl, but not if it was their sister.

I hope these mini apartments are not coming here to the Anne Arundel County or the Annapolis, Maryland area. If anyone reading this knows my landlord, Loren J. Williams of Annapolis Land & Property, Ltd, please DONT tell him about this movement, least he decides to try and implement it here. And if you happen to be Loren J. Williams,or anyone that works for Annapolis Land & Property, Ltd.,I'm just kidding. Please don't evict me. You are a great landlord. This is the nicest place I have lived since I lost my home to a foreclosure scam.
