Microdermabrasion For Pregnancy Stretch Marks
Following pregnancy, many women struggle to lose weight and those who succeed are
still left with the appearance of ugly stretch marks on their stomach and chest. Stretch marks occur deeper down in the skin, in a layer called the dermis, and can initially appear to be purple in color. They eventually fade into a lighter, but still very visible, appearance.
What is Microdermabrasion?
This technique involves spraying the top layer of skin, known as the epidermis, with crystals that exfoliate and remove dead cells which are then extracted with a suction device. The procedure is commonly used on many different areas of the body to help minimize the appearance of fine lines, age spots, sun spots, and scarring, but some women have seen success in using the process for the treatment of pregnancy stretch marks.
Microdermabrasion for Stretch Marks
Although the marks are actually in the dermis layer, they do also appear in the epidermis, which is where the microdermabrasion procedure works. In this way, the appearance of the lines can be minimized to the point of near invisibility if enough treatments are undergone. It takes several applications over a period of months to achieve the desired results.
The process promotes the growth of new, healthy skin on the top layer which will mask the appearance of any scarring on the lower layer (the dermis), so this is a huge plus for mothers who want a simple and effective way to minimize the appearance of these marks.
Microdermabrasion is highly convenient as it does not involve invasive surgery and is offered by many cosmetic surgery centers as well as beauty day spas. Your skin may feel more sensitive than normal after your 45 minute session, but you shouldn't feel pain and won't need to set aside any recovery time. You should, however, avoid sun exposure following treatment.
Risks
There are very few risks associated with this cosmetic treatment, although as with any type of beauty therapy there is a chance of infection if the professional you have selected does not properly sanitize the area and equipment. When choosing a location to have the procedure, check online for salon or spa reviews and ask to see before and after photographs of other clients who have undergone the same process that you are considering.
You should be provided with protective eyewear to keep on during the treatment. Always follow any professional aftercare advice provided very strictly to ensure a good outcome.
