Microsoft Dynamics GP, formerly known as Great Plains Dynamics and eEnterprise, is good option for mid-market ERP solutions or MRP/ERP platform in general and it has numerous Distributions modules and add-ons. In this small publication we are giving you highlights on Inventory Replenishment add-on. This product includes broader Warehouse Management System functionality and we will be concentrating on replenishment part:

1.Barcoding technology. We recommend you to consider direct Dynamics GP screens extensions for Barcoding automation, versus external WMS integration to Great Plains SOP, POP, Inventory Control modules. The advantages to implement direct Great Plains functionality extensions are the followings: avoiding WMS to Dynamics GP integration implementation; avoiding paying second time for very similar functionality (merchandize receipts, order fulfillment, stock count) in WMS, as it is already available to you in Great Plains

2.Inventory Replenishment in Dynamics GP. Normally you deploy Purchase Order Processing module in GP with issuing Purchase Order and then receiving merchandize against PO lines. This is where you naturally extend PO Receipts with Barcode scanning automation. Barcoding Add-on has client application which works directly on your Barcode scanner screen and allows you to read PO Number, PO Line Item (inventory item number), enter quantity and even read Lot Number (if item requires lot number in GP)

3.Advanced Options for Replenishment. If you have numerous items, which require minimum stock level, you may decide to purchase Great Plains Purchase Configurator module, which will allow you to select items automatically for replenishment, pick supplier (by various criteria) and automatically generate Purchase Orders

4.Supported Versions. WMS and Inventory Replenishment module are available for the whole spectrum of versions, beginning with 7.5: 8.0, 9.0, 10.0, 11.0. However we strongly recommend you to upgrade to the version, currently supported by Microsoft Business Solutions: 11.0, 10.0 or 9.0 at the time of writing (April 2010). The reason is simple - Warehouse Management System in its licenses cost might be comparable with Dynamics GP core user licenses summary price, which makes it really not feasible to implement WMS for older versions of Great Plains, no longer supported by MBS itself and by your local Dynamics GP Partners.
