Miley Cyrus Tickets - 'Can't Be Tamed' Ignites Controversy

It wasn't that long ago that a frizzy haired Miley Cyrus was auditioning for the sidekick role in Disney's new sitcom Hannah Montana. After a series of auditions, the young daughter to country music star Billy Ray Cyrus eventually earned the title in a role that would take her to the silver screen, recording studio, magazine covers and more.

Though she has long lost her frizz, crooked teeth and school girl fashion sense, inklings of the pre-teen Miley were still often caught in music videos, YouTube stints and interviews. That is, until "Can't Be Tamed" appeared. The new video shows a Lady Gaga styled Miley complete with a leather leotard, extreme eye makeup and a stripper pole, strutting around the dance floor with backup dancers in tow. Unlike other Cyrus singles like "Party in the USA" or "The Climb," it is clear Cyrus is looking for a new audience, and with her 18th birthday looming, it is no surprise that she's starting to break out of her shell. Though "Can't be Tamed" might be the first outward attempt to show she's growing up, this isn't the first instance that Cyrus has drawn media attention for her mature behavior. With the consent of her father, she was pictured nude in a Vanity Fair spread and kicked off Nickelodeon's Teen Choice Awards with a strip tease, just to name a few. As the series that earned her stardom winds down, with Hannah Montana entering its final season, fans can only wonder what is next for the Nashville native. "Miley's transformation was inevitable she's been clawing herself out of that cage for a while," Suzanne Ross, executive producer of E!'s "True Hollywood Story," said to Billboard. The transformation shouldn't surprise those who have followed the music industry's pop divas over the years from Christina Aguilera to Britney Spears - even fellow Disney star Hilary Duff - all start out with a sugar-coated image that turns raw after a few years in the industry. Just months from her 18th birthday, Cyrus' head spin after five years in the industry should shock few. Complete with a birdcage and wings, "Can't be Tamed" is the new country girl.

A starlet from a young age, Cyrus has long been given the spotlight. Born to a famous father, Cyrus' life might have been predictable in Nashville up until her start singing. From then on, her family wasn't letting the talent of Destiny Hope, nicknamed Smiley, go to waste. At just 10 years old she was starring with her father in the television series Doc, earning her own roles just a year later. With the success of the Disney Channel show, Miley launched her singing career that helped spark a mainstream audience. Her third album, Can't Be Tamed, departs from the bubblegum pop music Cyrus' Disney fan came to recognize her, turning it into an "Oops, I Did It Again" moment a la Britney Spears.
