Military Swords

The Military swords that are mostly used by the modern Armed Forces are a symbol of power

, strength, integrity, duty and last but not the least honor. There are several historical aspect as far as the military swords are concerned. The respective sword in the medieval times had been the primary weapon that was used by the then soldier.

With the passage of time and advancement in weapon technology, especially owing to the excessive usage of gunpowder, the swords have become much ceremonial in nature. Currently in the modern times the military sword has survived as the bayonet. The full-size military swords of the modern times are not only used in combat but are also symbolic.

When the civil war was at its peak, there had been numerous companies that had not only manufactured military swords but also advertised them. The respective swords have sharp blades and had been very capable of not only inflicting wounds but also mortal damage. When they were in the hands of some skilled swordsman, they became more lethal than inaccurate rifles or other firearms that were available at that time.

To date the United States Military Officers continue wearing the approved Swords for ceremonial purposes. The US Marine Corps Non Commissioned Officer is the only NCO, as far as the US Military is concerned who has been authorized to wear a sword as a part of his uniform. The Marine NCO Sword is most definitely the oldest sword that is still continuously used ever since the year 1859, and also in the US Air Force it is the newest that has been used ever since the mid fifties.

It is also very interesting to note that the quality of the blades of these swords came down drastically as the war progressed and turned against Japan. The once high quality military swords that had been created at the inception of the fighting had now been substituted with low quality swords that were made up of poor materials as the combat was coming to an end. The American forces that had been in the Pacific Ocean had managed to establish a stranglehold on Japan's ability of obtaining resources and it was evident from the quality of their weapons.
