Minimum Wage For Apprentices Introduced

This year saw the minimum wage introduced for apprentices for the first time in the UK

, a telling sign of the direction in which the government are trying to take the country in. It makes a nice change from the politics of recent weeks, which has been all about agreeing with Nick, getting real and our wonderful Prime Minister insulting his supporters.

Quite frankly, its about time that apprentices were paid for their work; after all, the whole point of an apprenticeship is to give people real work and life experience in a way that encourages them to take the right path. A big part of this aim has got to be to show them exactly how nice it is to receive a wage packet at the end of each week or month.

This is also great for the country, it means the likes of Mrs Duffy of Rochdale who Gordon Brown described a bigoted woman when she asked about immigration, are some way to being given some sort of solution. We rely heavily on immigrant workers in the UK and as it turns out, these people have a reputation for being much more conscientious than a lot of their British counterparts and a lot of this must be to do with the British mindset mustnt it?

The way we approach life and work must change from the very youngest generations if we are you rid ourselves of the benefits culture and paying apprentices is a huge step in the right direction. Even the low starting wage for apprentices of 2.50 per hour will instil a mindset of hard work and one outcome of this should be that we as a country benefit from skilled and motivated workers to carry out essential jobs such as labouring, mechanics, plumbing and appliance repair.

What this means for you and me is that well have even greater access to cost effective and efficient appliance repairs which in turn means that we can banish this wasteful, throw-away culture that weve created. Instead of throwing away that washing machine, dishwasher or fridge freezer we will have the means to save ourselves hundreds of pounds and a trip to the tip by having whatever it is repaired.
