The electric toothbrush has been around for quite a number of years, and it has come a long way since the first electric toothbrush was introduced. The main difference between the manual and electric toothbrushes is the effort you need to put in. With the electric toothbrush, it is the rotation of the head that will clean your teeth for you. Typically, the head of an electric toothbrush will pulsate 1,000 times over the span of one minute. It tries to target plaque and bacteria from the teeth, edges of the teeth between the hum and the teeth, and even your tongue. All you need to do is hold the brush and point in the right direction. The other advantages are:

Quicker brushing time
There are disadvantages to using the electric toothbrush though such as :
You need to replace the toothbrush head at least once every quarter, and this is expensive compared to buying a new manual toothbrush
You could damage your tooth enamel if you overdo the usage.
You could become complacent about cleaning
You have an electrically powered device inside your wet mouth - that entails some risk and danger
Children should not use electric tooth brushes on their own
Of course, these disadvantages have all been covered by additional safety measures. The problem lies in that not all electric toothbrushes have these safety measures like the timer to let you know when enough is enough. This means, the responsibility lies in the consumer. He has to buy the more expensive electric tooth brushes in order to enjoy this and other safety features.
To resolve the issue of whether to buy a manual toothbrush or an electric toothbrush means knowing your typical maturity towards being responsible with electrical devices, and having the means to support this decision. The electric toothbrush is not a toy and should never be treated as one. Thus, if you can pay for it, and use it properly, there is nothing wrong with an electric tooth brush.
