Minnesota Vikings Tickets - Favre Makes Vikes Super Bowl Contender

After yet another offseason filled with speculation regarding Brett Favre's status

, the future Hall of Fame quarterback has reportedly decided to suit up for the 2010 NFL season. His arrival to camp instantly turns the Vikings from a borderline playoff team into a bona fide Super Bowl contender. The Vikings came within an overtime period of reaching the big game last season and are certainly among the elite teams in the National Football League with Favre on board. With Favre back, the team can put their focus where it needs to be, on winning a championship.

Last season, every Vikings fan rushed to get their hands on Minnesota Vikings tickets as soon as the news of Brett Favre joining the team became public. Expectations ran high and Super Bowl talk became commonplace in the Twin Cities, but plenty of people remained skeptical of what Favre could actually do for the team at his age. Favre was coming off a season with the New York Jets that had gotten off to a promising start but fizzled down the stretch. Questions about Favre's ability to play the game at a high level ran rampant, but Vikings faithful held strong on their stance that Favre was exactly what the team needed.

In this case, the biased fans happened to be correct. Favre had arguably his best season as a pro in 2009, throwing for more than 4,200 yards and tossing 33 touchdowns to just seven interceptions. He was the team's most valuable player and injected life into what had been a rather boring offensive scheme. Every week fans watched in amazement as Favre looked 25 years old again, but he still had the body of a near-40-year-old. Favre took an especially brutal beating at the hands of the New Orleans Saints in the NFC Championship Game, suffering a serious ankle injury that would eventually require surgery. It's no wonder that Favre contemplated retirement this offseason; there's only so much a body with that kind of mileage can take.

Now that he's back, though, Favre's presence completely changes the Minnesota offense. Without him, the offense is Adrian Peterson, Adrian Peterson and Adrian Peterson. Neither Tavaris Jackson nor Sage Rosenfels have proven themselves to be capable NFL starters, so having one of them under center would serious limit the offensive options. Peterson is among the best running backs in the league, but even he can struggle against defenses that are stacked against him.

With Favre in place, defenses suddenly have to respect the pass. Favre turned Sidney Rice into a legitimate number one wideout last season. Rice amassed 1,312 yards receiving in 2009, up from a mere 141 one year prior. Favre also made the most of rookie Percy Harvin, who displayed his electric game-breaking skills on a regular basis. Without Favre, nobody would know how to pronounce tight end Visanthe Shiancoe's name.

So Vikings brass must have breathed a heavy sigh of relief when they found out that Favre was returning for the 2010 campaign; they must have been delighted. However, it remains to be seen whether the gray-bearded quarterback can stave off father time long enough to net the franchise their first Super Bowl victory. It's likely to be his final run in the NFL, but heck, we were saying that three years ago.
