Minorities and Scholarships
So since I began writing articles ive always had a tendency to reference my past. In this case my past couldn't be any less revelant to the topic at hand. When it comes to the topic of scholarships and financial aid for minorities my personal experiences don't really pertain much to the topic. I didnt grew up in a very ethnically diverse neighborhood. My neighborhood was made up of about 98% white upper-middle class families. Although the area was pretty liberal and open-minded it definitely wasnt filled with tons of diversity. It wasn't until after college when I moved to the city where I really started to understand how the world worked. I met great a lot of great people. I always met a lot of smart people that were never afforded the same oppurtunities that my friends and I were.
Growing up in such a non diverse area really left me with a lack of true understanding as to what an uphill battle certain minorities and ethnic groups have to face. I would remember kids in my high school talking about how it was unfair that since they were white they wouldn't recieve a scholarship. Of course someone who is passed over may feel slighted by the system but what I came to learn is that the programs in place to help minorities receive scholarships and financial aid is an incredible system. The friends I met when I moved to the city really gave me a great understanding of this. Some of them had worked incredibly hard in high school. They had great grades but just didn't have the money to afford college. Not only did a lot of them work 2 jobs and go to school, but they also did better then a lot of the friends I had from back home who had their college fully paid for by their parents. The programs in place are really great. If you are hispanic, native american, asian, african american there are even programs where single mothers can be eligible for finanical aid. Paying for college is tough to do, espcially when you weren't lucky enough to be born into a wealthy family. These scholarships really help give minorities the chance to pursue higher education.
Ive spent many years researching the different type of scholarship programs out there. I think these days there are more scholarships offered then any other time in our nations history. These scholarships range from all types. No matter what your ethnicity, race, creed there are scholarships and financial aid available to you. These programs were set up to help those in financial need. Looking into these options for yourself could mean a huge difference in the overall quality of your life. Everybody has the oppurtunity for a bright future. Its about doing what you can to make sure you've researched all the necassary options out there to ensure you've looked into every possibility. The money is out there for you so make sure you go and get it.
