The ASX is Mitsubishi's new compact crossover; it is in direct competition with the very popular Nissan Qashqai
. It comes with a choice of two engines petrol and a diesel - a choice of two- or four-wheel drive and the ClearTec low emissions package includes Auto Stop & Go technology.
The ASX's new 1.8-litre turbocharged intercooled diesel engine is the world's first passenger car diesel to feature variable valve timing. MIVEC (Mitsubishi Innovative Valve timing Electronic Control) improves both power delivery and fuel consumption, resulting in lower CO2 emissions.
Mitsubishi have included the Gear Shift Indicator in the ASX, it encourages fuel efficient driving by indicating the optimal gear shifting points to the driver. The 4 wheel drive variants of the ASX also come equipped with "Drive Mode Selector" which allows selection of three drive train mode settings:
2WD - only the front wheels are driven for best fuel economy on dry paved roads
4WD - automatically shifts up to 30% of the torque to the rear wheels for better traction on slippery surfaces
LOCK - torque shift to the rear wheels is increased to 50% on demand, to gain maximum traction in extreme weather conditions or in difficult terrain
The ASX also has many safety features making it a very safe car for young families and for mums to ferry around the kids, some of the safety features on the ASX include 7 airbags and ESS (Emergency Stop signal System) which switches on the hazards during an emergency breaking situation.
SMC Cars are one of the first Mitsubishi ASX London dealers to have taken delivery of the new vehicle and said initial customer feedback was very encouraging.
