Mixing And Matching

We've all stood in front of the mirror before and thought 'ugh

, these shoes don't go at all, but I don't have anything better, so whatever, I'll just wear them'. We leave the house feeling not so sure of ourselves and then spot somebody walking towards us who looks absolutely gorgeous, and what are they wearing? A printed skirt, charcoal blazer and running shoes, or they're a man dressed in a green linen suit, with an old pair of Vans slip-ons. Suddenly we look down at our own, not-entirely-right footwear and think they don't look so bad. The point is, outfits should work together yes, but there is something to be said about combining a series of pieces that work really well on their own. Some other examples include:

1. Clean cuts with cosy cover-ups:

There are some who don't want to cover up the clean lines of their suits and dresses with an old frumpy sweater their grandfather used to wear. Then there are others who believe that its cosiness and age will add to the vintage feel they're going for. They won't shy away from wearing1960s patterns with a new age rock and roll t-shirt.

2. Paisley and sportswear:

There are some men and women who create fashion statements by combining loud, stylish items, with everyday basics. Wearing paisley trousers, a dress shirt and a pair of beat up trainers is the perfect example of this. A long, flowy, silk summer dress combined with Converse running shoes is another.

3. Jeans and heels:

There is nothing new about this look. Several years back when jeans started being made really well, when they became fitted and expensive, women started wearing them with heels, jackets and jewels. A lot of us girls think about how we can get away with wearing flats with our dresses, so it seems hard to believe that any girl would opt for a less comfortable pair of shoes when it would suit the look perfectly well. Having said that, heels really do dress up an outfit. More than that, they change the way you walk, look and feel.

4. Graphic mix:

A lot of people are afraid to mix prints, don't let that happen to you! If the colours work and there is enough solid in your outfit to balance out all of the pattern then there is no reason why you can't combine a few different ones. Checks and zigzags, polkadots and stripes, it's all fun. With the right accessories you'll be making a loud and brave statement.
