Mizuno Irons-the Difference Between Forged And Cast Golf Irons

Mizuno have produced a huge range of clubs ranging from cavity back for the beginner

, hybrid for the more progressive golfer and blades for the top golfer. Mizuno uses a range of materials in their irons including steel alloy and a mild carbon steel in their more expensive products.

Generally the mild carbon steel is only used in making forged irons, as opposed to cast irons, and the reason is that the mild carbon steel does not fill a mold as well as other materials and so is not really suitable for casting clubs.

On the other hand molten stainless steel is more liquid and hence more suitable for casting.

The advantages of forged Mizuno irons over cast comes down to consistency which comes from the absence of air bubbles getting trapped in the face of the club when forging... as the forging process involves using one lump of mild carbon steel.

Casting on the other hand involves pouring a steel alloy into a mold and the mold is then broken... at the end of this process you can have trapped air bubbles in the face of the club which will lead to inconsistent performance and sound and can even lead to cracking of the club.

Casting of clubs also leads to another problem... when the club is cooling down some parts of the club are thicker than others(the top edge is thinner than the sole) which can lead to warping of the face.

Mizuno have been involved in golf club making for many many years and have wide exposure to using materials in the aerospace industry. And it is this experience and exposure to top engineering which will leave you with a superbly made golf club in your hand when you choose Mizuno Golf irons.
