Mlb Tickets - First-half A.l. Mvps

As the MLB approaches the halfway mark for the 2010 season

, it's not too early to start talking about the first-half MVPs. Some are familiar faces and some have come more or less out of nowhere, which is to be expected. As of June 8th, here are the position players who have had the most impact on their teams so far this season.

5. Evan Longoria, Third Base, Tampa Bay Rays. With the Rays in first place in best division in baseball, Longoria has been their best hitter most of the season. He continues to live up to the hype with a .312 average, 11 bombs and 44 RBIs. With that lineup, Longoria will continue to have opportunities to drive in runs all season long, though his real season will likely be in the playoffs. The Rays are one of the most exciting teams in the league and Longoria continues to be their marquee player, and one they'll want to hold on to for a very long time.

4. Vladimir Guerrero, Designated Hitter, Texas Rangers. Along with Scott Rolen and Troy Glaus, Vlad is one of the most surprising resurgent bats around the league. Vlad is simply mashing this season with 12 longballs, 47 RBIs and a ridiculous .333 average. He's certainly helped the Rangers sell plenty of MLB tickets already this season and it looks like he's got back the stroke that made him one of the best players in the league for a decade.

3. Justin Morneau, First Base, Minnesota Twins. Though Morneau has predominately been a power hitter throughout his career, he's leading the league in hitting with a .370 average so far this season. Adding in 13 home runs and 40 RBIs, Morneau will likely get MVP votes once again after winning the MVP just a few years ago. As the season goes on, Morneau's power numbers should only increase. Not bad for the player living in the shadow of Joe Mauer.

2. Robinson Cano, Second Base, New York Yankees. Mark Teixeira still isn't hitting and the power for A-rod hasn't completely kicked in just yet. Still, the Yankees are playing very good baseball and have one of the best records in the league, mostly thanks to the bat of Cano and the solid pitching of C.C. Sabathia and Phil Hughes. Cano is second in the league in hitting (.363) and among the leaders in RBIs as well. If he can keep up anywhere near this pace, he will be a very strong MVP candidate, though no one would have anticipated that heading into the season.

1. Miguel Cabrera, First Base, Detroit Tigers. Ever since Cabrera hit an opposite field home run against Roger Clemens in the World Series his rookie season, everyone has known that he is a stud. After putting up some enormous seasons in Florida, though, he hasn't had the same level of statistical output since coming over to Detroit a few seasons ago. Until now, that is. Cabrera is hitting an eye-popping .351 with 17 bombs and a MLB leading 52 RBIs. Combining with Magglio Ordonez, Cabrera helps to form one of the best one-two punches in baseball and has the Tigers competing with the more talented Twins in the A.L. Central.

Best of the rest:

Kevin Youkilis, First Base, Boston Red Sox. Youkilis is the one player left off the list that still has a legitimate chance at taking down the A.L. MVP. After the Sox got off to a horrid start, they've rallied around Youkilis, who has been their best and most consistent player all season long. With a .315 average, 12 homers and 39 RBIs, Youkilis has been their chief catalyst. His .449 on-base percentage is also second in the entire league.

Vernon Wells, Outfield, Toronto Blue Jays. Though most anticipated him cooling off from his hot start in April, Wells has continued to rake in the heart of the Blue Jays' order and is one of the main reasons that they are playing as well as they are.
