MLB tickets, fans of the Boston Red Sox were certain that this was the beginning of a new dynasty in Major League Baseball. After suffering for nearly a century, if any team were to deserve such a thing, perhaps this was the team. The last couple of seasons, however, haven't gone exactly as planned. Between widespread injuries of key players to rumored clubhouse turmoil, the team has faced its share of criticism since late last season.

The 2011 Red Sox are seen by some fans as "the greatest team that never was" in baseball. While franchises like the long-suffering Pittsburgh Pirates would do anything to finish with a 90-72 record like the 2011 Red Sox did, that was only good for a third-place finish in the American League East, where the Red Sox play. It wasn't only about the New York Yankees and Tampa Bay Rays having better records than the Red Sox, but it was the team's epic collapse in the month of September that did them in. Culminating in a one-game playoff with the Tampa Bay Rays for the right to go to the playoffs, the Red Sox would lose this historic game and end up watching the postseason on television instead of experiencing it once again for themselves.

The team's September collapse ended up with the team's leadership going through an overhaul. Highly-respected veteran manager Terry Francona announced he wouldn't return in 2012. Whether he was fired or he resigned, fingers were being pointed in every direction. General manager Theo Epstein, who oversaw the rebuilding of the franchise and who built them to win the two World Series, would also leave the Red Sox, signing with the Chicago Cubs to become the President of Baseball Operations.

Even with the upheaval and turmoil in the Red Sox clubhouse, this is still an immensely talented team. Due to several key injuries, the Red Sox have had to mix and match with replacements, especially in the outfield, where star centerfielder Jacoby Ellsbury has been out with a shoulder injury. While third baseman Kevin Youkilis hasn't played up to his previous level of play, the emergence of young Will Middlebrooks has provided Red Sox fans with a glimpse into the next generation of the franchise.

Seen by many as the "face of the franchise" over the last decade, long-time designated hitter (DH) David Ortiz has been proving critics wrong that he was nearing the end of his career. Having another "Papi-like" season, Ortiz is lifting the Red Sox on his back in hopes to propel them to the postseason.

With injuries to the Red Sox pitching rotation, younger players like Felix Doubront have had to step up and perform, and in Doubront's case, he's done that well so far. The Red Sox simply have too much talent and have experienced "bad luck" in baseball terms with their injuries. After the team is healthy once again, they hope to resume their place as one of the best teams in all of baseball.
