Mls - Real Salt Lake Will Face Galaxy In The Grand Finale
With determination and grit, the Real Salt Lake has managed to shine in the final stage of the 2009 MLS season
. After a sound regular performance during the course of the season, the RSL rallied at the end, demonstrating that they were a team capable of increasing the level of play. Theyve got all the qualities they need to win the tournament at the end of the season in their first qualification for the MLS Cup.
The team displayed effort and dedicating as it overcame one opponent after another. The RLS were good, but not astounding until the semifinals, where they beat last years defending champions, the Columbus Crew, to the surprise of spectators and pundits alike.
Then the RLS were on a roll. They went on to beat the Chicago Fire, one of the top favorites to win the title, by a score of 5-4 in a close session of penalty kicks. With the win, the RSL secured their tickets to the finals, where the team will face the Los Angeles Galaxy in the grand finale.
The team has demonstrated its intentions for the championship. The players showed it in last Saturdays pointless visit to the Toyota Park Stadium. The game developed evenly but concluded with a 0-0 score. But Real punished the Men in Red in the penalty kicks.
For Jason Kreis, Real Salt Lake coach, leading his team to the MLS finals is a great achievement that bridges a gap in his own career as a player; Kreis had never been able to qualify.
RSL will be facing the Los Angeles Galaxy in the final. The Los Angeles team moved into the championships after defeating the Houston Dynamo 2-0. Both teams missed several good scoring opportunities in that game, but the match was eventually defined in overtime, when the Galaxy took control of the action.
It was in overtime that David Beckham came out. The English midfielder was in charge of assisting an accurate pass received by defender Berthalter Gregg, who then sent the ball directly to the bottom of the Dynamos net at minute 103.
After the Galaxy opened the scoring, Landon Donovan, the captain of the California team, scored the second goal for his team just six minutes after the first, during a penalty kick.
And so Los Angeles won its ticket to the finals at the highest level of American soccer.
Berthalter, who for some time had failed to make a goal, said he was pleased with his own contribution to the teams efforts, since his work, in addition to preventing goals, also included some contribution in the offense.
The Galaxy are currently in good condition, one that keeps its players including Berthalter motivated and optimistic about the challenge that still lies ahead. Bruce Arena, the Galaxys coach, stated that he was pleased with his teams work and highlighted some of his top players performances, including those by Beckham, Donovan, and Berthalter, among others. It is these players who are the fundamental parts of Arenas strategy in the much-anticipated final.
The match between Real Salt Lake and the Galaxy will be held on Sunday November, 22 at the Quest Field Stadium in Washington.
