Telefonica O2 is a subsidiary of Telefonica Europe plc which is originally based in Spain. They are more commonly known under the O2 brand name and have been in operations for almost twenty years now. The company originally started as BT Wireless, a subsidiary of the British Telecom group which included the then-famous Genie Internet. Under the British Telecom name, BT Wireless would expand its services throughout Europe and establishing companies such as Esat Digifone, Viag Telekom, Telfort and other companies across Ireland, Germany, Netherlands and more. Originally using the mmO2 plc, the company later changed its name to O2 after a 2001 demerger. In 2006, the entire O2 group would be acquired by Telefonica of Spain.
