Mobile number portability launch postponed to Nov 25

MNP is a unique facility which will be provided to the Indian subscriber. With the help ofMobiles India Number portability (MNP), subscriber will have the facility to change their mobile operator without changing the current number. That means that now, a person can carry the same number life long and still change its operator with time.The launch of MNP in India was to be held on 1st of November but according to recent decisions by the department of telecommunications (DoT), Haryana, the launch will now be made on 25th of November.As per the DoT statements Haryana will be the first state to receive MNP services and then it will be made effective in other states as well. The work on Mobile Number portability seems not taken seriously by the officials as the first date announced for the launch was 31st December 2009 and then it was postponed to 31st March 2010. the launch was decided in all the Metros along with other states of Andhra Pradesh, Tamil Nadu, Karnataka, Maharashtra and Gujrat. This was again delayed to June 30th.The major problem DoT facing is that the mobile operators are not finding this Idea easy to implement and doesn't want to adopt it in their network.Press release:"The countrywide launch of MNP services will start from Haryana Licensed Service Area on November 25, 2010. From this date customers in Haryana will have the option of changing their service provider without changing their mobile numbers," said a DoT statement."A period of four days has been prescribed for completion of porting (transfer) of the mobile number to the network of the new service provider," said the statement.
