Introduction

Nowadays, Refrigerator plays very important role in our homes. In this article, I had focussed on patients and elders with refrigerator. We know that, elders and patient cannot walk so much times to take fruits or foods from refrigerator. So, Mobility Assistive Refrigerator (MAR) is induced. It is nothing but a refrigerator with wheel. The elders and patients can operate MAR at any place in their home by using remote control or joystick. This article is focussing a next generation refrigeration.

Description

Refrigeration,processoflowering the temperature in a given space and maintaining it for the purpose of chilling foods, preserving certain substances, or providing an atmosphere conducive to bodily comfort. Storing perishable foods, furs, pharmaceuticals, or other items under refrigeration is commonly known as cold storage. Such refrigeration checks both bacterial growth and adverse chemical reactions that occur in the normal atmosphere.

In general, wheels are categorized as manual and powered types. From the viewpoints of movement behaviours, the powered wheel with refrigerator can be regarded as a mobile regrigerator if additional environmental sensing components are built and an intelligent motion controller is included. Therefore, a refrigerator with wheel should be proposed for integrating novel sensing and intelligent control technologies to improve the convenience and comfort of mobility assistance.

The assistive technologies resolve the problems which is possible to occur in future:

1. Stable velocity control of wheels in terms of feedback motion control system.

2. Comfortable wheel driving in terms of velocity adjustment of wheels for various degrees of turning.

3. Collision avoidance of wheel for approaching still and moving objects or person.

Development of autonomous navigation system for refrigerator wheel seems to be an important issue. However, most of navigation systems are developed based on personal computers such as desktops or laptops. Such a computational architecture increases the weight, cost and power consumption of the wheels. Therefore, a chip based solution is needed to improve the feasibility of the robotic wheels.


Low cost implementations

The cost for developing an autonomous refrigerator is quite expensive when compared to conventional refrigerator. The additional costs are ultrasonic sensors and personal computers. To reduce the cost, a distributed chip based robotic wheel supervisory controller is needed to improve the reliability, and to reduce the cost as well.

Conclusions

This article presents the navigation technologies of Mobility Assistive Refrigerator for elders and patients. A feasible robotic wheel is achieved by controlling the wheel using the joystick, and the hybrid function converts joystick command as the virtual target. In this way, the proposed navigation functions become important assistive function to justify user's command and to perform more safe and comfortable wheel driving mechanism.
