Mobility Lift Types And Benefits
One of the earliest mobility lift manufacturers ever was a firm called the Inclinator Company of America
. They did business during the twenties, and they made very expensive stair lifts. Nowadays, stair lifts aren't the only kinds of lifts on the market, and we'll go into more detail on that point momentarily. Also, regardless of which type of lift you're buying, they're usually a lot more affordable than they used to be, too. Still, you need to exercise some common sense when you make any major purchase, and we're going to give you a little help in that department as well.
There are three main types of wheelchair lifts. There are stair lifts, there are platform lifts, and there are van lifts. Stair lifts can be straight or curved. Platform lifts are usually commercial, indoors or out, but they can also be used outdoors at private residences. Van lifts are typically affixed in positions at either the rear or the side of an accessible van. We'd like to make one more observation about stair lifts in particular. Curved stair lifts are more expensive and take longer to build than straight ones. Both, however, can be aesthetically customized, so that they blend in perfectly with their surroundings.
There is one thing that all of these different kinds of lifts have in common, and that is that they will make life dramatically easier for those whose disabilities render them unable to move freely without help. Stair lifts, in particular, can be useful even for those who aren't completely immobile. Particularly if they have a disease which causes them to be prone to falling, such lifts are much safer for these people. For those who do use wheelchairs, but are still able to get themselves form the wheelchair itself to the chair on the lift, they can be even more advantageous. A wheelchair on each floor of such a house would make such a person almost completely independent.
When you get ready to purchase a mobility lift, regardless of which particular type, you'll need to exercise a little common sense. For starters, you want to try to find out as much about the company you're considering doing business with as you can. Read as many of the available reviews as you have time to, in addition to the material the company publishes itself. When reading the material provided by the company, pay especially close information to the kinds of warranties which they offer.
