While eyes are the most beautiful and expressive features of your face that attract
the maximum attention, they are also the first and the fastest to show stealthy signs of aging, anxiety, fatigue and bad habits. Water retention caused by a variety of reasons such as excess of salt intake, overuse of alcohol or tobacco, anxiety etc. makes the fat under the eyes to absorb water and results in formation of eye bags or puffiness. Ageing causes the skin of the lower eye to sag as it loses elasticity which then cannot hold up the fatty tissues. Eyebags or pouches are formed because these fatty tissues are pushed forward and down. Shadows formed under the puffiness create dark circles which completely mar the beauty of the face.
Eyebag surgery is one of the most effective answers to this problem. Since eye bags are problems of the lower eyelids, cosmetic eyebag surgery also known as blepharoplasty of the lower eyelids is performed to eliminate the puffiness of the eyes, resulting in youthful and alert appearance.
Older techniques of eyebag surgery involved making an incision on the natural skin lines under the eye removing the fat that caused the eye bags and also removing some loose skin to tauten it. But this technique had many failings such as visible scars, hollow older look and a change in the shape of the lower eyelids which defeated the whole purpose of the exercise.
Modern eyebag surgery
There are several improved techniques that are being currently followed while performing eyebag surgery. One of them involves making an incision on the conjunctiva or the pink region on the inside of the eyelids and removing fat without damaging supporting tissue. This method does not alter the shape of the eyelids but excess skin cannot be removed by this technique. Some cosmetic surgeons prefer not to remove the fat at all but to push it down over the cheek-bone to give fuller cheeks and no eye bags. Eyebag surgery using laser has also become very common now since it causes the least tissue damage and almost no bleeding as the size of incision is very small. This is the most popular technique that is used for eyebag surgery now.
