Modern Flueless Fireplaces Within Your Home
Modern fireplaces can be high-tech works of art that are energy efficient and therefore environmentally friendly
. Additionally, today's selection of modern fireplaces, often with flueless technology, means you can have a standalone fireplace practically anywhere in your home.
No longer are you restricted to places where there is an external wall or an existing fireplace with a flue, you can choose which rooms you want fireplaces, and position the fireplace exactly where you want. So, instead of having to set all your furniture out around the fireplace, which in some homes can make for difficulties, instead you have the fireplace installed in a perfect place in your room allowing you to set out your furniture as you prefer, not as the position of the fireplace demands.
An important aspect about flueless fireplaces is that they are much more energy efficient; most of the heat from a regular fire goes directly out of the flue. By comparison almost 100% of the heat generated by a flueless fire goes to heating the room.
Then of course there is the safety aspect; flues can become blocked or adversely affected by down-draughts and highly toxic carbon dioxide and carbon monoxide can enter the room. Neither of these gases have an odour, so you won't know they are there.
Flueless fires burn fuel cleanly without a flue and the burnt gases pass through a catalytic converter; similar to the one you have in the exhaust system in your car. Many flueless fire places incorporate an oxygen sensor. This monitors the quality of the air in the room; if the level of oxygen falls by a certain set percentage then the fire shuts down.
Flueless fires produce a gently convected heat. Air vents regulate the flow of air and heat and enable the heat to move quickly away from the fire and circulate around the room. So instead of having the hot spots that you get with a regular fire, the heat is evenly distributed everywhere. By comparison, a flued fire needs to draw in a lot of air; this can produce the effect of a draft as the cool air moves quickly toward the fire and the hot air moves upward away from the fire.
Installation of a flueless fireplace is so much simpler, quicker and less messy than installing a flued fireplace. This means that the installation costs are kept to minimum and therefore perhaps enables you to spend a little more money on choosing the perfect fireplace to suit your room, or alternatively you can simply keep the money you've saved.
It is important to ensure that you have your flueless fireplace installed professionally. The flame in the fire uses a certain amount of oxygen and this comes from within the room. Modern homes are very well insulated which means that there are few in any drafts.
When your fireplace is installed you will also have an air vent fitted to ensure that there is always a supply of fresh air in the room.
