Modern Methods For Carpet Cleaning

When it's time for carpet cleaning there are several ways to approach this

. You can either hire a professional or do it yourself. The basic methods for getting your carpets clean are steam only, what is called steam cleaning, with hot water and chemical cleaners, foam cleaning, the dry powder method and the "bonnet" method

If you are going to hire a professional, do a little research to make sure they are a reputable company and what services they provide. Know what method they will be using to do the carpet cleaning. Find out if they will be moving your furniture out of area that will be cleaned or will they expect you to move the furniture? Of course you should know the price before they start.

With the steam method chemicals are not used and are great for killing allergens. Steam should not be used for wool carpets. Drying time is much shorter compared with hot water and cleaning chemicals.

Steam cleaning machines actually use chemical cleaners and hot water. The cleaning solutions are sprayed onto the carpet and the attached vacuum picks up the solution and dirt. This method is great for all carpet types except for wool. The drying time will take hours and the carpet should not be walked on until dry.

Foam cleaners are scrubbed into the carpet, allowed to dry, and then the dirt is vacuumed up. Dry cleaning uses a dry powder or crystals. The cleaner is spread on the carpet, scrubbed in either by hand or machine. The dirt and powder is vacuumed up. Good for all types of carpets, with no drying time.

The Bonnet method uses cleaning solution sprayed on the carpet and a cotton or cotton blend bonnet placed on a rotary machine. The dirt and solution is absorbed by the spinning bonnet and the bonnet is changed when as it become wet and dirty. There is a short drying time for this method and several clean bonnets need to be available in order to finish the cleaning.

Before starting any method of cleaning carpets, deep vacuuming is very important. Take your time vacuuming. Maybe put on your favorite music album and vacuum until the album is over. Treating stains and spills as they occur can cut down on cleaning time. Correctly treating the stain is important, it makes a difference if someone forgot to take the dog for a walk, or the kids started to use the living room carpet as their coloring project.

Carpet cleaning doesn't have to be drudgery, just follow a few simple steps to get carpet smelling lovely and looking like new.
