Modern Nursery Bedding Sets
When you're pregnant and planning your baby's room
, you have to make a decision about furniture and baby bedding. Modern nursery bedding gives you lots of options. Are you going to go organic or traditional? And, if it's your first child, you probably need to decide the colour scheme for the room as well.
Whether you're looking for nursery bedding for boys or girls, there is so much choice, it can be extremely confusing.
Alongside Disney-themed rooms with the Princesses, Toy Story or Shrek, there are a range of geometric shapes or less obviously branded prints such as polka dots, paisley and stripes for contemporary style. But you can bring things up to date by incorporating classic designs in bold new colours.
The ocean, sun and palm trees of tropical beaches are a popular choice for those parents looking for a unisex or neutral theme, rather than going for a traditional pastel shade like yellow.
Whereas in my day, it was traditionally blue for a boy and pink for a girl, modern nursery bedding for some more contemporary parents can become a concept with complex colour palettes such as salmon pink or orange and white and rich chocolate brown and cream. Textures can be used as well as colour to make a bold statement.
While, of course, the dcor and co-ordination of the soft furnishings are hugely important, another often forgotten consideration is the composition of the nursery bedding - modern duvets or traditional blankets.
Twenty years ago, like most mothers, I wrapped my first baby in a traditional cellular blanket but soon after cot duvets started to become standard in nursery bedding sets.
Recently there have been concerns about using duvets for babies since it is not so easy to regulate their temperature. Parents these days are also using a grobag, a special type of baby sleeping bag which stops your little one from being able to kick off the covers whilst moving and get cold.
Organic products are a popular option these days with some particularly health-conscious parents fearing possible links between fire retardants used on modern nursery bedding and future health problems. Luxurious organic cotton sheets and blankets made from carefully sourced raw materials which are grown without pesticides.
With such a huge array of products and colours, choosing modern nursery bedding has become a lot more complicated.
