Modular Furniture making Machines
Modular furniture refers to pre-made units that can be combined in different ways to furnish a room. Modular furnishings are often flat packed for home assembly. Most furniture companies have a showroom with their modular furniture products set up so customers can see what the items look like assembled. Online shoppers may shop through virtual furniture galleries. There are many types of attractive modular systems available for each room in a home.
Kitchen modular furniture systems are popular today. Most manufacturers of modular kitchen furnishings offer upper cabinets with options such as single or double doors and solid or glass door panels. Box-shaped cabinets with pre-drilled holes on the sides allow shelves to be added according to how much space is needed between each shelf.
Furniture industry in India is concentrated in the unorganized sector with 85% of it coming from individual, cottage, and small industries. One study estimates the total size of this market at Rs 3,500 crore. Of this, the market for office furniture in commercial establishments and service sectors accounts for Rs 1,100-1,200 crore, while premium office furniture, or designer furniture, commands a market share of Rs 400-500 crore.
With government liberalizing FDI norms in this sector, several MNCs and big-ticket Indian players have set up state-of-art production facilities aimed to cater to the IT, ITeS, and other service and manufacturing industries, which have hired a lot of office space and hope to boost their operations, even during this period of a global downturn, as India and China are the only two major economies in the world with their GDPs growing at around 7%. Some of these players, including MNCs, are Haworth, Herman Miller, Godrej & Boyce Manufacturing Co Ltd, BP Ergo, Steelcase, Teknion, etc.
"The Indian market is very exciting and people here are open to ideas. Most of the top-end executives have worked in the US and European institutions and are willing to borrow and even innovate on the products. But, in India, designing office furniture is a big challenge owing to the climactic considerations, and the market is very dynamic. I use a very high proportion of recyclable material with steel, aluminum and polymers as base material and 30% of these are recycled material! Startline is targeted specifically at the Indian market. All the furniture products are modular and can be open-bench, panel based, or configured for personal cabin use and, they can be easily swapped and reconfigured across these categories, and also upgraded to meet the evolving needs," says Tim. A product of Royal College of Art, Tim has been into furniture designing for nearly 30 years, with his clients spread across the UK, Europe, and the US.
