Mommy Jewelry Is The Gift That Keeps On Giving

Sometimes, people think of mommy jewelry as an extravagance

, but we have moments in our lives where we realize that it is the smallest things in life that can potentially be the most meaningful. You might be confused as to how we could possibly think that mommy jewelry was meaningful in a real life situation, but allow us to recant to you a story that was told to us.

Recently, we heard of a mother who watched her son enlist in the Army, and was subsequently deployed overseas. Of course, a deployment is wracked with fear and worry and you live in a perpetual state of both. While generally we see men hand their dog tags over to the women in their lives as a keepsake, in this instance this mother handed over her personalized jewelry, which was a necklace he had given her years ago when he was much younger.

The necklace was very simple and was a white gold round with his name engraved into the front and his date of birth on the back. The mother remembered that when she was presented with the gift, she was so taken aback that an emotional display soon followed. Through her tears, she handed her precious piece of jewelry over to her son before he boarded the plane, much like the exchange of dog tags, and asked that he bring her precious trinket back home safely.

After 15 long months in the Middle East, our story does end on a positive note. This young man returned home and his parents met him at the airport. Amid the flurry of hugs and kisses, he stopped for a moment and reached around his neck, pulling the mommy jewelry up over his head and returning it to his mother. He had kept his promise and returned her prized possession to her.

This is only a small sampling of the stories that we hear involving precious moments in life that remind us of just how fragile life can be, much like that piece of mommy jewelry that the mother so adored. We often put our hands in the lives of others and regardless of the trials and tribulations that we are put through, we still overcome.
