Mommy's Tea Time
Everyone knows that coffee is only good for you if you have like one cup a day and that's it -- sounds impossible right
? So what do you do -- switch to tea? Yeah right! No seriously, yeah right. I was never really a coffee drinker but after my third kid I found I couldn't get my eyes open fast enough in the morning so I jump started myself with a little caffeine kick. However, it left me feeling jumpy, needing more, then not being able to sleep at night. So I decided to kick the coffee habit. Not as easy as it sounds. Headache after headache from caffeine withdrawal and I have to say I missed the smell of it. By then I was practically drooling at Dunkin Donuts commercials and if I passed a Starbucks I was pulling my hair out.
A friend of mine asked me if I read about the benefits of drinking tea instead of coffee and she suggested I try it. I like real brewed iced tea so I figured okay sure, why not. Totally the best experience ever. I find I feel better, I am snacking less, and I have energy, but not the caffeine jitters coffee was giving me.
My favorites are mint green tea with lunch, African rooibus red tea in the morning (it is so rich and robust it easily replaces coffee and is good for lowering your blood pressure too), chamomile for right before bed, spicy chai for those cold autumn nights, and a vanilla white tea for anytime. I tend to stay away form the berry flavored teas but I hear they are good. Honestly, there are just so many flavors! I thought tea was tea and that was it. I was so very wrong. Now I am always trying new teas and what I like best is that I can add lemon or orange slices, honey, sugar, cream, milk, cinnamon, agave nectar, etc. There are so many tea varieties and blends, I mean who knew? I am having so much fun with this whole tea thing that I've started mixing my own blends and brewing them with a tea ball in a real tea pot! It is so cool! My daughter thinks I'm nuts, but I love it and it is good for me!
All of those fancy coffee places serve tea as well so when I don't want to make my own or I am meeting a friend at the mall or something I know I can have my favorite drink just about anywhere! Now I think I am ready for tea time at the Plaza!
