Money For College: Obama Grants For Moms
If you want to be successful, getting a good education is a good start
. Even before he became President, Barack Obama spoke about the need to make education a priority. Scholarships and grants are only a small part of the education system makeover.
For decades, college prices have steadily increased. Schools don't offer scholarships to ever student to cover necessary expenses. Low-income students suffer the most if they are unable to secure enough scholarship or grant money. A large number of these people are working mothers. To put more educated minds in the workforce and ensure that families are cared for, it's important to educate moms. The President believes in this and has begun a mission to create scholarships for moms. If you've heard of Obama grants for moms, know that people are referring to Federal Pell Grants. These grants award a student over $5,000 to go to college. Before Pell grants maxed out at about $4,000. These grants can be used to cover many of the miscellaneous college expenses.
Single moms should also consider the American Opportunity Tax Credit. This tax credit makes a way for students to write off the first $4,000 of their education costs. Especially for less expensive schools, $4,000 could be a significant help for a student. Single moms often fall into this group, so these programs are particularly beneficial to them. Students have numerous school options: full-time or part-time, 2-year or 4-year college, multiple majors. Taking away a little of the financial burden of college is a helpful way to get more students enrolled.
Increasing educational opportunity and performance is undoubtedly one of the President's goals. With some changes to the lending system, many graduate and undergraduate loans will be less costly. There is also emphasis on ways to improve school and student achievement in all areas. Since many overlook community colleges, there is emphasis on increasing their effectiveness and appeal. To attend a 2-year college has a number of benefits, including saving money and learning a trade or skill.
In 2007 Obama stated, "We need to put a college education within reach of every American. That's the best investment we can make in our future." President Obama has shown he is serious about action. Scholarships for moms are only a small part of the mission to help educate more people. Traditional and non-traditional students alike have numerous opportunities to put their education first.
