Money For College: Obama Grants For Mothers

Education is always an important key to a good future

. Since his campaign to become President, Barack Obama has made education a key issue. One major part of the effort is to make available to students more free money for college.

One familiar part of the economic meltdown is the rise in college tuition and other costs. Besides tuition and housing, fees for books, travel and eating are often not covered. Unfortunately some students turn away from higher education because it's too expensive. A large number of these people are working mothers. Educating women and single moms is important to increase the workforce and help provide for children and families. It's important to the President and that's why he's implemented a program for scholarships for mothers. If you've heard of Obama grants for moms, know that people are referring to Federal Pell Grants. To help with university costs, a student can earn more than $5,000. This is an increase of $1,000 over the previous maximum, and the goal is to help working mothers return to school. These grants can be used to cover many of the miscellaneous college expenses.

There's also another great program: the American Opportunity Tax Credit. This program allows the first $4,000 of education expenses to be free. This is a worthy incentive, especially for schools that are less expensive. Both of these tax programs help single moms tremendously because they are traditionally low-income individuals. There are almost no restrictions on where and what a student studies. Moms and students of all kinds can go to school with a little less to worry about.

Obama's efforts to improve education show that he takes this issue seriously. The new stimulus package has some benefits for potential college students. There is also emphasis on ways to improve school and student achievement in all areas. Higher education at a 2-year college can be a great option, and there is emphasis being put on that fact. At a community college students can gain important knowledge as well as save money.

In his Reclaiming the American Dream speech in 2007, Obama said, "We need to put a college education within reach of every American. That's the best investment we can make in our future." The President's actions are reflecting his words. Grants for moms are just a small but vital part of the education mission. Traditional and non-traditional students alike have numerous opportunities to put their education first.
