The world famous Big Foot was one of the first, if not the first classic monster truck, and is still competing today.

The size of the tires used by monster trucks has increased even more over the years and now tires of 66inches are commonplace.

In the 80's, the Monster Truck Racing Association was created. This organization standardised racing rules, construction and safety and firmly brought the sport into the public eye.

The popularity of monster truck racing has gained more and more momentum with the freestyle and jump events being popular all over the world. Monster Jam is currently the largest monster truck promoter with events in America, Europe and Canada.

Typically the trucks are based on large scale 4x4 off road buggies. Their internal frame is fully customised with tubular reinforced chassis and the bodywork is quite often highly detailed fibreglass, sometimes depicting monsters, or even dinosaurs.

The custom suspension can offer over 3 feet of clearance whilst offering maximum support for the cab and chassis.

All the engine components are shielded from blow-outs and explosions, this increases safety for the driver, and the spectators. 3 separate stand alone engine cut-offs are standard on all trucks.

Drivers are required to wear fire suits, helmets and neck and head restraints, and the windscreens are shatter proof to protect the truck driver from track debris.
