Moped Rentals: Things To Look For Before You Rent
Moped rentals are great for sightseeing when you don't have a lot of ground to cover
. They go fast enough to get to where you're going and slow enough to let you see everything around you. This article will provide you with information that can help you have a great moped rental experience from start to finish. Whether you're just out for a ride or touring an exotic island, the following will be beneficial to you.
One ride on a moped is generally all it takes to become a crazed moped nut. You get the wind in your hair, the sun on your face and the best gas mileage you could ever hope for.
Here are some things you should know before you rent a moped:
- Moped renters must be at least 18 years of age. Renters under the age of 18 who have a valid driver's license must be accompanied by an adult.
- Mopeds are subject to the same laws on the roads as cars.
- Ride in single file and never on the side walk.
- Some moped may have smaller engines that aren't designed for high speeds or for carrying heavy loads. Make sure you ask about weight restrictions before reserving a moped.
Moped rentals might seem like a really easy thing to do, but if you rent a bad scooter, you run the risk of having it break down on you. That could totally ruin a whole day of your vacation! Make sure you rent a moped that has been well maintained. Here are something things to look for:
- Are the tires in good condition? They should have plenty of tread on them and the air pressure should be no less than 26 psi.
- Are all of the parts on the moped? Be sure to make sure your moped still has mirrors!
- Do the turn signals work? How about the brakes?
- Does the bike ride in a straight line? Ask if you can test drive the moped for a quick second before you sign the contract, just to make sure.
- Does it have enough gas and oil to last your entire trip? The rental company shouldn't have any trouble answering these questions.
- How old is the moped? If it's more than a couple of years old, you might want to consider another moped. Unlike cars, mopeds can rack up miles and once they reach 20,000 or more, they're literally on their last leg.
Safety recommendations:
- A moped is not a toy! Treat it like you would a car or a motorcycle when you're on the road.
- Always wear a helmet. A moped can easily be overlooked by a large automobile operator so be prepared just in case something happens.
- Always wear protective gear like closed-toed shoes and long pants. If you do take a spill, you want to have at least a little something between your tender skin and the road.
- Avoid riding in the rain. If you must, ride very cautiously and keep your distance from other vehicles.
