New young physicians now work under fewer hours than their forerunners thanks to

certain rules that diminished the hours of work that a physician has to clock in But herein lie a lot of challenges. Many med students and expert physicians find themselves with so much work to do while the hospital is troubled by growing outlays worth millions of dollars as they try their best to restore task schedules.

Such demands followed after various concerns about unwarranted work hours clocked in by exhausted residents who might even pose a threat to their patient's health. The president of the American association of medical colleges who represents over 400 teaching hospitals in the country states that such changes are done while keeping in mind that the way they care for patients is for utmost importance.

Such strategies have been implemented by the council that accredits medical education that also oversees the 7,800 guardianship program throughout the country who are behind the decrease of doctor's work hours to only 80 hours a week, creating a problem on how to accommodate these doctors whose population are by the hundreds or more already. Before, specialists like surgeons get to work longer in a week which can be approximately up to a hundred hours. The residents are greeted with various limitations now such as ineligibility from working for 24 consecutive hours as well as being obliged to have a respite in between shifts for at least 10 hours.

Until now, handfuls of resident doctors have filed lawsuits on labor hour violations, yet eleven of them lacked evidence and thus have been dismissed. The group known as the American medical student association adheres to what they claim that such violations are underreported and they add about how residents do not squeals as it might jeopardize their accreditation.
