We tested: 4-GW with True Temper Dynalite Gold XP steel shaft
Company line: "Y-Tuned Pro technology reinforces the face for enhanced feel and flight control. A milled pocket cavity in 3- to 7-irons redistributes 12 grams low and deep to provide a high penetrating launch. The 8-iron to GW utilize a solid power bar' for maximum feel and pin-attacking control."
Our Testers say:
PROS: First-class sticks; receive top marks for feel; these clubs focus on creating great shots while some other models focus on reducing the number of terrible ones; sweet blend of a players' club and a game-improvement model; 9-iron and PW are strong performers on greenside play;significant stopping power with short irons; plays well from all lies; longer-than-average carry; great combination of accuracy and forgiveness, keeps mis-hits in play; several testers expect to buy these.
CONS: A small number of panelists prefer more feedback on good shots; a minority expect more playability, others anticipate more forgiveness.

"With its Y-Tune Pro technology, the MX-300 is what we call the ultimate game-improvement iron. It delivers Grain Flow Forged feel and a compact head shape with minimal progressive offset, all in a forgiving cavity-back design." David Llewellyn
The MX-300 irons, like its cousin, offers a blade-like appearance at address, plenty of feedback and noticeably more forgiveness than bona fide "game-enhancing" clubs. A Y-shaped pad in the back cavity reinforces the clubface (particularly the high toe area) for a broader effective hitting area and enhanced feel. The midsize heads (standard set is 4-GW) have a rounded toe, medium sole width and minimal progressive offset. The 3- through 7-irons have a milled "pocket cavity" (17 grams shifted low and to the rear). This drops the club's center of gravity, increases MOI and allows Average Joes to hoist the ball up. A solid bar behind the hitting area (8-iron to GW) raises the center of gravity (CG) and lowers overall ball flight. True Temper's lightweight (113-117 gram) Dynalite Gold XP shafts, which come standard on the MX-300, offer a low kickpoint, but many custom options are available.
