More about holiday ownership
With the current economic climate and the positions of the bank in terms of lending money, especially for things like second homes the dream of owning a home in the sun for many Brits has been dashed.
Or maybe not for some. Many had enough to put down as a deposit but needed to finance the rest and that is now the sticking point, getting a mortgage for the remainder. So rather that give up on the idea of owning a home in the sun many started to investigate the possibilities of holiday ownership.
They found that this process was actually far more affordable and they still got to enjoy holidays every year but without the huge financial commitment of buying a house.
Of course this whole timeshare' industry has had some terrible press over the years but of you look at some of the main providers in the holiday ownership arena you will find some of the largest names in the travel industry.
Marriot for example are famous for their luxury hotels all over the world and now they offer holiday ownership in many different locations. The same goes for Club la Costa who have been in the holiday ownership market for many years and have projects in lots of beautiful locations.
But we still couldn't get past the bad press element so there was one way to get round this, we went to the Costa del Sol to check the situation out and see for ourselves what this holiday ownership thing is all about.
First it was off to one of two Marriot resorts and we were surprised to see that it still looked very much like a hotel complex. In fact it had everything a hotel offers as well as separate accommodation outside the main building. It certainly looked very impressive so we sat through one of the presentations. OK it was not the most exciting presentation in the world but at the end we picked up some literature and left, yes we were allowed to leave and apart from the odd phone call we have had no high pressure selling.
Next it was off to the famous Club la Costa complex on the Mijas Costa section of the coast. This was a totally different concept to Marriot and it seemed more like an entire town. There were shops, bars, restaurants and lots of people walking around.
Again very impressive and this concept was more like feeling like you had a home in the sun rather that a hotel room.
So off we went to the presentation and although more dynamic we still managed to leave without being forced into buying a holiday ownership.
Are we converted to holiday ownership? Well there is more to investigate first but we are certainly much closer to the idea that before we went, and one more thing, thank you Club la Costa for one of the best breakfasts I have has in years.
