More than a golf course owner, Stan Mickle a renowned horse breeder

Stan Mickle's interests and family enterprise extend well beyond the golf green. Started by his father Wes, Stan has continued the Mickle tradition of breeding and training horses.

And it's more than just a hobby Stan Mickle has a degree in agricultural production and agricultural business, and has been involved with his father in building and managing an acclaimed equestrian program and facilities. Some of the greatest racehorses to ever grace the track have been trained at Stan Mickle's family facility.

One of the horse of note is the great cutting horse sire, Peppy San Badger, of the famous King Ranch in Texas. Known by many as Little Peppy, the 31- year-old stallion was by the ranch's great cutting stallion, San Peppy, and out of Sugar Badger by Grey Badger II.

Little Peppy began his cutting career by winning the 1977 NCHA Futurity race. He was champion of the 1978 NCHA Derby, as well as the 1979 NCHA reserve world champion.

He also won the 1981 NCHA World Finals. The NCHA Chatter reported his last public appearance was in 2004 during King Ranch's 150th anniversary celebration.

"It's an honor to have been involved, in small part, to this great horse's success," Stan Mickle said.

After his competitive career, Little Peppy went into the breeding shed and was soon the top choice for many mare owners. He sired 2,323 foals, including 1,202 performers in mostly cutting, reined cow horse and reining.

"Of his 19 years of offspring registered, the last in 1996, 173 horses went on to receive their AQHA Register of Merit awards," Stan Mickle said.

In the National Cutting Horse Association, his offspring earned almost $21 million. Little Peppy's bloodline remains predominant among the King Ranch's horses.

Other remarkable horses and thoroughbreds that the Mickle's have worked with include Mito, Little Request, and Red Charmer, Vanny Bar, Tippy Canoe, Cool Frenchy, and Duel Pep among many others, Stan Mickle noted.
