Moscow is a city unlike any other

Moscow is a city unlike any other. It is a huge place with a surreal blend of Europe and asia, culminating in a large and tumultuous place. It is Russia's largest city, with one in fifteen Russians occupying the place, and is beautiful while at the same time, pretty ugly.

There are some fantastic sights to see and things to do on a short trip here, so make sure that you partake in a few activities to really see and feel the real Moscow.

Visit destinations on the metro; similar to London's tube system but with some of the most decorative stations in the world, from interesting Stalin esque to high ballroom glitz. Don't miss the Kremlin palaces, which were the seat of Russian power in the seventeenth century and offering beautiful treasures to behold. Traverse the red square, the heart of mother Russia, and see Lenin's mausoleum, a tribute to a horrific era of communism that oppressed the country.

For something a little more trivial, visit the Pushkin museum of fine arts, where toy can see Rembrandts paintings, some souvenirs of troy', Monets, Picassos and Czannes.

For a more sinister sight of the old city, try visiting the Novodevichie convent and cemetery. Wives and sisters of soviet tsars were once forced here if unwanted or unmarried, to become nuns for the rest of their days. See elaborate funeral sculptures and really get a feel of the darker side.

For a day trip, try the Moskva river cruise, which takes you to see magnificent views of the Kremlin, the cathedral of Christ the saviour and some of the fantastic skyscrapers built in Stalin's regime.
