Mother of Pearl was founded by Maia Norman, wife of artist Damien Hirst. The designer admits that she takes a lot of inspiration from the outdoors. A self-confessed road tripper, motocross rider, and surfer, Mother of Pearl features items that offer heat pressed trims and waterproof finishes.

The fashion line was originally a swimwear label but in 2009, it was re-launched as luxury casual wear. With technologically forward fabrics and sharply cut shapes, the clothes give a different kind of "oomph" but with sports-inspired details. Some of the standout pieces in 2009 included the raglan sweatshirt with pleated goatskin sleeves. The washed silk joggers and the little mini dresses were ideal for women who wanted to wear something comfy without compromising their feminine side.

For Norman's Spring-Summer 2011 collection, she collaborated with artist Jim Lambie. Norman confesses that she has loved Jim's work for a long time but she was not very sure if the artist would love to collaborate with her. Lambie was responsible for the designing the prints in her sportswear-inspired collection.

The result was amazing. The collaboration combined Lambie's acid perm and paintings with Norman's neat and geometric designs. The collection showcased a lot of loud colors and beautiful prints. There were lots of hoods and zips to satisfy Norman's love for practicality and the outdoors. They were mixed and matched with different shapes, cuts, and fabrics. The appeal was an exceptional mergence of sartorial and visual delight.

From the collection, we thought that the simple silk T-shirts stood out completely. They were feminine but sporty and neat at the same time. The tees combine comfort, function, and elegance into one.
