Motion Sensors - A Key Component To Home Security

When motion sensors are mentioned, one of two responses is generally heard

. "What am I going to do now?" or, "Isn't it a little too late detecting a burglar once he's inside my house?" Both are understandable responses, and they're both serious questions being asked by a homeowner considering a monitored home security system for his home.

The first response is one of safety. What am I going to do now that an intruder has been detected on my property or in my house? That's a scary proposition because the burglar or intruder has also just been alerted. Most burglars will make hay and get out of your house or off your property. After all, a high-decibel siren will sound, and that means authorities are surely close behind.

When you have a monitored ADT alarm, highly skilled home emergency dispatchers are already on top of the intrusion and are making direct contact with your local emergency response units. The last thing a burglar wants is his presence detected. They simply want in and out as quickly as possible, grabbing a few things they know will be easy to pawn, trade, or sell.

The other question, "Isn't it too late, the burglar is already in my house?" is a common question. Consider motion sensors a just another layer of protection in your entire home security system. Some burglars can get past door locks, but a person unfamiliar with the layout of your house will have no idea if there are motion sensors installed, let alone where they're placed. When set to sound loud sirens and turn on the lights in your home, a motion sensor is a critically important component to your overall home security plan.

So, what exactly is a motion detector and how does it work? A motion detector or sensor is a device designed to analyze a specific pattern in its range, detect irregularities, and determine whether or not the object in its field of "vision" is a chair, a pet, a plant, or a person. It's generally the movement that creates an unbalanced field, and trips the alarm. Today's modern motion detectors are smart enough to be able to detect the difference between your family pet, even a sizeable dog, and a person.

You should consider motion detectors as important to your overall home security system as you would smoke detectors, and door and windows sensors. There's no good reason to have an incomplete home security system installed. Make certain when you're deciding on a system that you include at least one motion detector and ADT monitoring. This is literally a part of home security you should never compromise.
