Motives and solutions for terrorism
Terrorism has now become a global phenomenon. It has been the topic of ceaseless comment, debate, and controversy since several years. There is a constant search for tracing the roots, motives and solutions for the problem. Currently it figures on top of the national and international agenda. Overwhelming majority of people does not sympathize with terrorism. The role of foreign hand was also strong in all the activities of the terrorists.
Many attackers were not driven out by poverty or ignorance, but by a lethal mix of nationalism, and humiliation. Surprisingly many of them were young of not more than 30 years, middle class and educated. The parents of many of them confessed that they had no clue of what their son was up to. This is of course true of many modern parents, irrespective of the religion to which they belong, who are surprised by the deviant behavior of their children.
Among the several motives for the cause, many of them seem to be to create fear, get worldwide/national or local recognition for their cause, embarrass government security forces, demand of money, weapons and ammunitions, destroy government property, discourage tourism, influence government decisions, release of the arrested persons ,satisfy their vengeance etc.
Other characters;
All acts of terrorism are motivated by the achievement of a goal which may be related to social, religious, or political change.
To rationalize violent acts against innocent people, in order to further their cause.
To bring about political change in order to rid society of an undesired ruling power.
To revenge. There have been many instances where terrorism has been used as a means torevenge on what is considered an unjustor offensive act. It is also revenge against the country to shake them to make them aware about the injustice done to them
To gain attention from the public eyeusing fear. Most terrorism occurs without warning and seems to occur at random.
Purpose and success of Terrorism:
Terrorism triggers fear in the minds of people which is the sign of weakness. This weakness gives in to demands and suffers the wants of the terrorist at will. Never knowing where and when they will strike is what creates an atmosphere of nerves, doubts, and reluctance. These are more so when casualties actually occur and the threat of more to come is
given. It is followed by anger when nothing is being done to prevent
such actions, quarreling among constituents, friends and even leaders
escalate with internal strife.
Suicide terrorism:
The motives for suicide terrorism do not appear to differ significantly from the general motives for terrorism, which include revenge, retaliation, and provocation of government over-reaction. These objectives may be tactical goals in the end of disrupting peace processes or acquiring political recognition and status.
The most distinctive characteristic of suicide terrorism, however, appears to be the motive of individual self-sacrifice and martyrdom. It is this willingness to die that makes it appear irrational to many observers. The phenomenon cannot be explained exclusively as the most efficient way of eluding the government's defenses in order to gain access to desirable targets, although this practical consideration is a factor.
Terrorism is also a type of violence used tactically in peace, conflict, and war. The threat of terrorism is ever present, and an attack is likely to occur when least expected.
Thus Terrorism is the use of violence to inculcate fear; intended to coerce or to intimidate governments or societies in the pursuit of goals that are usually political, religious, or ideological.
Sometimes a state also can sponsor terrorism by funding or harboring a terrorist organization. Opinions as to which acts of violence by states consist of state-sponsored terrorism vary widely. When states provide funding for groups considered by some to be terrorist, they rarely acknowledge them as such.
In some instances Terrorism has also ceased to be a fight for rights. In some other cases it has also more or less become a business for some and a source of employment for the unemployed.
Solutions:
One approach as a means of eliminating extremist actions is essentially to give them decent jobs.
Economic development of all regions, elimination of regional disparities in economic development, removal of disparities in income distribution is often offered as solution to poverty, despair.
The best way is to bring legislative changes and allow them to contest in the elections so that they can bring about the changes which they desire to. This will eliminate several problems which the society is facing in any country. Major is political and bureaucratic corruption.
Another solution is the effective implementation of all the existing legislations for the development of economically downtrodden people.
Conclusion:
Terrorists are the people who create the terror to destroy the terror in their own hearts. It is a political issue for much terror fed countries. So they allow it to grow in their country for benefits of their own. Terrorists too are the normal people like us, but not with the riches we are enjoying. So it is the matter of humanity and social justice which can change their lives. It is also a solution for eradication of the problem.
