Motorbike Dealers Are Not Just For Summer...

The motorbike is considered to be very much a fixture of the summer and many motorcyclists

view their bike as means of transport for only about half of the year. But it doesn't have to be this way. Many braver souls have realised that with a bit of preparation the months outside April to October are also fair game for their bikes.

There are two important factors to consider in winter riding. The first is that motorbike parts are going to be under different strains with the cold, and the secondly is that you, as the rider are going to be under different strains too. A good online site, or your local motorbike dealer will be able to provide you with a large selection of winter wear but never underestimate the power of a good pair of long thermal undies as well! Whilst you are at your motorbike dealer it is also a good idea to ask them about preparing your bike for winter; many do preventative checks that will check all the at-risk motorbike parts and sell special winter-kits that provide all the things you will need. Tyres are especially important to be checking before you do a lot of winter driving but also fluids. The cold will put a different strain on your oils so it is well worth checking that these are ok and if required getting a change.

Remember to check everything even more carefully before heading out on a winter ride. Above all, the checks of Brakes, Lights, Tyres and Steering (the first letters of Bacon, Lettuce and Tomato Sandwich is how we always remember it!). Brakes will be getting wet and salty, so before you set off, give them a few squeezes when it is safe to do so to clear out any mess and it is especially important that you be seen in poor weather conditions. Checking your lights (and brake lights!) could be a lifesaver.
